Under Armour® ColdGear® Base Layer 4.0

Good evening all,

In this blog I wanted to discuss an issue that I think plagues all hunters. Sitting in your stand and freezing your tail off. There is nothing worse than not being able to focus due to the fact that you are miserable from the cold. I tried layering my clothing so that I could stay warm and it helped but then I was so bulky that it was hard to get in and out of the stand. That is when a friend of mine turned me on to Base Layers. I took my time and did my research and man is there a lot of research out there. I finally landed on Under Armour's ColdGear® 4.0. I am not going to lie, I was a little bit taken back by the price of them. To spend close to $200 for the shirt and the pants was hard to do. After a full season of wearing them, I am very happy that I did. To me, hunting is a numbers game. I say that meaning the more number of hours that you spend in the stand the more number of encounters you are going to have with deer. You can't do that if you are frozen. Your head is going to start messing with your will. As soon as you say, "I'm not seeing much and it is too cold out here" and head for the house, the big buck will cruse on by. If you were in the stand instead of on the couch, you would have taken him. The way that I looked at spending the money was that I spend a lot of money and time to hunt. I might as well be comfortable doing it so that I can spend as much time as I can in the stand. The 4.0 are a tight fitting base layer and even have anti-odor technology. The fit is the same during the last part of the season as they did the first part with maybe washing and drying them 10-12 times during the season. Believe me, I didn't want to spend that much on long underwear either but I promise they are worth it if you are prone to getting cold. Most of the time I wore my 4.0's, a sweat shirt, and a camo button up shirt and pants and stayed comfortable. I hear that Under Armour makes really nice gloves, face mask, etc. but I haven't had a chance to try anything else from them other than the 4.0's. If I do, I will make sure to tell you what I think. God Bless.

Craig
