Getting back at it...

Hey guys,

Just a quick update. The World Deer Expo is this weekend. That means one thing to me. I always take the expo coming to town as a sign that deer season is right around the corner. This event kind of kicks off the start for me. All the local stores will start taking down the skiing and boating supplies and start building the hunting displays. This is when my wife can't stand going into the sporting good stores with me because it will take a long time to get out. I will now start looking for new hunting supplies to start reviewing and will let everyone know what I find. The World Deer Expo is a great place to start looking. I will be posting reviews soon. I am looking to review trail cameras, stands, hunting knifes, and the newest camo as well. Please e-mail or comment if you have anything that you want me to start looking into. God Bless.

Just a little update

Hey everybody,

I wanted to let everybody know that Southern Outdoor Blogs will be taking a little summer time break. This time of year is always hard for me as a sportsmen. I wish that I had the time to fish more but that never seems to happen. I sit and count days until the cold weather gets here and I can get in the woods again. I will be working on product testing during the summer. Some of the things that I am hoping to get me hand on are trail cameras, deer attractants, different feeders, and anything else that you should be focusing on during the antler growing period. I am really hoping to get a hold of a deer attractant called Lucky Buck. This product claims that you will see results or your money back. That means one thing to me. They trust their product. That already says a lot to me.  I would like to take the chance to thank all the vendors that have sent me products. The support that my readers have giving me has been a blessing. Thank you all. Until cooler weather, God Bless.

Muck Boot Woody Sport Armor Cool

Hey everyone,

Well, it is finally here. Muck Boot made a snake boot that is perfect for turkey hunting. The new Woody Sport Armor Cool is one heck of a boot. They have taken everything that I love about their boots for deer hunting and made a boot that I love just as much for turkey hunting. I live and hunt turkeys in south Alabama. That means that there is always one thing that I have on my mind walking around in the woods... snakes. I could run into a copperhead, water moccasin, or a rattlesnake as I chase turkeys. These boots allow me to quit worrying so much about the snakes and focus on my calling. These boots have the new XpressCool™ lining in them that helps your feet stay comfortable the whole time. I wore my pair for turkey hunting and I also take them with me on pig hunts and just working on the land. I will make sure that they are on my feet anytime that snakes a active. They are comfortable enough to wear all day. I use to wear the normal lace up snake boots but to me, they weren't as comfortable due to the fact that I have to lace them up so tight so that my heel wasn't slipping. Now I have a great fitting boot that I have a little more moving room in. I also love the camo pattern they come in. You can't beat Mossy Oak Obsession when it comes to turkey hunting. I will be telling my friends about these boots for sure. I hope everyone had a great turkey season. Now it is time to start getting your feeders and minerals out so your deer can be getting all the salt and minerals that they need. God Bless.

TruGlo Products

Hello again,

Today I want to talk about a couple of different products that TruGlo® makes. The first one is a choke tube for turkey hunting called the  GOBBLE•STOPPER™ XTREME. First, what an awesome name. Second, it does just what the name says it does. I set up my turkey targets at 30 yards, 45 yards, and 55 yards. I would have nailed any long beard at those distances. I have a feeling that I could have kept going with zero problems. At 55 yards, I counted around 20 holes in the head. That is awesome. As every turkey hunter knows, sometimes those gobblers just won't come in. No worries. If you have a GOBBLE•STOPPER™ XTREME and he gets in the neighborhood, he is done.

The next product that TruGlo® offers is the 30mm Red/Green Dot Scope. This thing is awesome. I have one mounted on my Remington 870 SPS SuperMag. I love it. The prime time for closing the deal on a long beard is early morning when they come off the roost. Sometimes the sun isn't all the way up and the birds are slipping in and out of brush. It can be hard to see the bead at the end of your gun barrel. This product lets you know exactly what you are aiming at. It is waterproof and fog-proof with a wide field of view. It has the pop up lens covers as well. You can switch from red to green dot with different levels of brightness. I normally use green just because it stands out from the turkeys head in the early morning hours. I honestly can't say enough about either of these two products.

Thanks again for all of the support from my readers. I have products coming in from different manufacturers so I should have plenty to write about soon. As always, God bless.

Nikon ProStaff 3-9x50 Matte BDC

Hello everybody,

One of the reasons that I am doing this blog is to try and help my readers make informed purchases. I love the outdoors and am trying to learn as much as I can about the products. I am very excited about this product.

The product that I want to talk about this time is the Nikon ProStaff 3-9x50 rifle scope. The one that I have is the black matte with the BDC (Bullet Drop Calculator)  in it. It is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed so it is waterproof and fog proof. The BDC lets you shoot comfortably at different ranges and you will know to you will be dead on. It has multi-coated lenses for light transmission up to 90%. All of these things aren't rare. A lot of the other scope companies have this. What got me about this scope was how great of a scope it was at the price they ask for it. You should be looking close to $250 for this scope. I put one on my .270 last August and used it this past deer season. I got at least 20 minutes more of great shooting light with it. All deer hunters know what that extra 20 minutes means to us. That could be the difference of getting that great buck or going home empty again. $250 is nothing to pay for a scope. Again, I am just a normal hunter like the rest of you. I have a wife, son, and a daughter on the way. I can not spend the money for the German made scopes. To be honest, you don't have to anymore now that Nikon has introduced the ProStaff Series. They also make bios from the same series. I would think that they would be just as good of a product. I am hoping to get my hands on some. If I do, I will be sure to let ya'll know. Until next time, God bless

Igloo Sportsmen 152 qt. cooler

Hey everybody,

It's time for another one folks. This post is about the Igloo Sportsmen 152 qt. cooler. This guy is not happy with this product. I have always liked Igloo coolers. They always seemed to hold ice for a long time and to be honest, this one does too. The problem that I have is the garbage that they call hardware. The hings are nothing short of nonsense. I noticed them the very first time that I opened the cooler and saw where the plastic tan hinges had turned white where they fold. The latches that hold the cooler closed are also no good. They just don't seem to latch as tight as they should. Latches that aren't tight means a weak seal. All that means to me is the ice is going to melt faster than it should. I really don't know why Igloo is using this style of hardware other than the fact that they would be happy to sell you replacement. When I spoke with Igloo about these issues (not knowing that I run a blog), they gave me some cookie cutter corporate answer as to why they won't do anything about it. No problem. This guy will not be depending on Igloo to be keeping his ice anymore. I need a cooler that I can fill with ice on the way to the woods and not have to worry about anything if I have meat to bring home. I will say that I loved how big the cooler was for the price. I was able to put a whole gobbler in the cooler and keep hunting without any problems. I hope Igloo changes up the hardware and soon. Thanks for the support everyone. God bless.

Old Crow™ and Killer B™ by Primos Hunting

Hey everybody,

Again, I wanted to thank everybody (both readers and vendors) for the support. It has been amazing so far. A lot more than I would have thought.

Today I want to talk about a couple of products on the market from Primos Hunting. The first product that I want to talk about it the Old Crow™ crow call. This call is something else. I use it to location gobblers but have a hard time hearing them because the crows go nuts once they hear this call. So much that my 3 year old son makes me go on the back porch to blow the call. The next thing we know, we are covered up by crows. He finds that very funny. My wife, not so much. The barrel of this call is a single piece of laminated hardwood and is very easy to use.

Another product that I want to talk about is also from Primos Hunting. That is the Killer B™. This turkey decoy is one fun decoy to have in the field. I think my favorite thing about it is either the size of it or the taxidermist quality eyes that they use. This little gobbler decoy will make you think that he wants to fight you just for looking at him. We all know that an old long beard is not going to stand for that. It comes with a pull cord so you can move his fan to different positions. To be honest, I have never used the pull cord. I am afraid to move that much. Everything that you need comes with it. A silk fan, pull cord, stake, and even a carrying bags. I have not had the chance to use the hen decoys that Primos makes but they look nice in the stores. I hope to have an opportunity to try out more of their products. If that happens, I will make sure to let you guys know what I think. Til next time. God bless
